Scholarship grants for high school graduating students

About 4,000 scholarship slots are to be awarded by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) to qualified high school graduating students who wish to take up college courses in science, technology, and engineering.

Deadline for submission of application is on November 16, 2007.

Five million Filipino families adversely affected by the strengthening of the peso, says survey

A recent survey conducted by the Social Weather Station (SWS) revealed thirty percent or about five million Filipino families said they were adversely affected by the strengthening of the peso against the US dollar.

The pollster also said that only 13 percent or about two million families say they are living more comfortably now with the peso-dollar exchange rate at P45; while 57 percent or about 10 million Filipino families say their well-being has not changed much.

Philippines ranks 6th in the world in providing equal opportunities for women

The latest World Economic Forum (WEF) gender gap index showed that the Philippines ranks sixth in the world in providing equal opportunities for women.

The WEF gender gap index showed that Filipino women have achieved equality in educational attainment, healthy life expectancy and improving opportunities for skilled women professionals.

In the same study, statistics reported that more Filipino employed women in the country also completed college than men. One out of three employed women had reached college while only one out of five employed men had reached college.
