Local public utility service providers have agreed to clean up the city streets of sagging wires within a period of six months to one year.
In a recent meeting with City Mayor Constantino G. Jaraula, service providers of cable tv, telephone and electricity assured the city mayor that they will look into the presence of chaotic wires in all parts of the city.
Mayor Jaraula had pointed out that his intention is to make the city a more beautifully, more comfortably and more gracefully livable place for every Cagayanon.
“Let’s rationalize the stringing of wires. If we can help each other, let’s define and agree on things for the good of the city and start working on what is attainable,” the city mayor stressed.
[AdSense01] The stakeholders who composed the Telecommunications Power Development Group told Mayor Jaraula that they will be starting their clean-up drive this week and will do it every Tuesday and Thursday until the city will be free of “spaghetti wires”.
In line with this, Mayor Jaraula instructed the Office of the City Building Official (OBO) to make adjustments in the issuance of building and electrical permits for new buildings to help ease the rationalization of wires.
To ensure the sustainability of this drive, Mayor Jaraula is also set to issue an executive order creating a committee that will be tasked to monitor the stringing of wires and the cleaning up of spaghetti wires.
The cleaning up of spaghetti wires will start along the streets of Apolinar Velez, C.M. Recto Avenue, Fernandez, R.N. Abejuela, Tirso Neri, Corrales, Tiano Bros. and Capistrano. (City Information Office)

City Mayor Constantino G. Jaraula is considering a proposal endorsed by the Cagayan Electric Power and Light Company (CEPALCO) that will save the city government over a million pesos in monthly electricity bills.
In yesterday’s meeting with CEPALCO and other public utility service providers, another important concern raised by Mayor Jaraula was the adoption of an effective measure that will reduce the city government’s power consumption.
At present, the city government is incurring P5.5 Million in electric bills or an annual electricity expense amounting to P66 Million.
Under the proposed delamping program, high wattage street lamps will be replaced with low wattage lamps. This means that all 500 Watts mercury vapor lamps will be replaced with 250W; 250W lamps will be replaced with 150W; and all 10W to 160W will be replaced with 70W bulbs.
If this materializes, the city government could save as much as P1,127,075 in monthly electricity expenses or a savings of P13,524, 900.48 in a year.
[AdSense01] Mayor Jaraula said that the savings the city can generate under the proposed delamping program is a big amount of money that can be used for more and better social services for the people.
There are three types of receipts with a minimum amount of P100 that can be entered in the PSR: Official Receipt, Cash/Sales Invoice and Cash Register Machine (CRM)/Point of Sales (POS) Receipt.
After the proposal shall have been studied by the City Task Force on Energy Savings and Audit, Mayor Jaraula will then endorse the proposal to the City Council under Vice Mayor Vicente Y. Emano for the adoption of an ordinance.
Other salient features of the proposed delamping program is the prohibition of any entity to install, connect or attach any street lighting facility without prior approval of the city mayor or his duly authorized representative.
Mayor Jaraula pointed out that the said feature will also ensure safety of the public as the city government will only allow authorized electricians to install, attach or connect any streetlight facility within the city. (City Information Office)
[AdSense01] The city government is set to establish a skills assistance center that will address the needs of domestic and foreign clients for skilled workers coming from Cagayan de Oro.
City Mayor Constantino G. Jaraula disclosed that the center is envisioned to provide a ready pool of skilled workers such as carpenters, plumbers, electricians, cooks, and dressmakers among others, who can be readily tapped by those who need their services.
Under Mayor Jaraula’s concept, the skills assistance center will maintain a comprehensive inventory of all skilled workers in the city including their contact information which the center can immediately refer to those who will be in need of specific services.
Mayor Jaraula said that the establishment of a skills assistance center is in support of his thrust to provide massive skills development training for the people in the city.
[AdSense01] Already, the city chief executive had sought the assistance of the Department of Education through its Alternative Learning System to conduct livelihood skills training for the beneficiaries of the city government-owned Calaanan Relocation Site in Barangay Canitoan.
Mayor Jaraula contended that aside from addressing the poor sector’s need for shelter, the city government will also do its best to help the Piso-piso beneficiaries become financially empowered.
This, he added, can be achieved by providing them opportunities to develop skills which they can use to augment the income of the family and thus sustain the basic needs of family members such as food, clothing and education.
Mayor Jaraula pointed out that it is high time for the government to redirect the purpose of education so that it becomes an effective tool in honing the skills of the people to become experts in various fields and thus improve their chances of landing a job or engaging in livelihood activities.
